It was a terrible scene that took place this Saturday afternoon, June 12, on the lawn of the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. A few minutes before half-time for the Denmark - Finland meeting, counting for the first round of Euro football, Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the lawn.
For long minutes, under the terrified gazes of spectators and players, some of whom were in tears, the rescue services performed cardiac massage on the 29-year-old attacking midfielder.
Images which were of course not filmed by television cameras. The Danish players had positioned themselves around the stage, in order to hide the intervention.
The player, visibly under respiratory assistance, was evacuated on a stretcher, hidden behind large white tarpaulins, and to the applause of the spectators.
"The Euro match in Copenhagen has been suspended due to a medical emergency," UEFA wrote on the tournament's Twitter account.
